Uniform \u2013 Blue short sleeve shirt (only order-able from Scouts Direct here<\/a>), navy shorts (not sports shorts) , black school shoes. Once your child is invested they will receive their own group scarf , woggle and initial set of badges.<\/p>\n

Important<\/span> – <\/b>Wash brand new shirts first before sewing any badges on, as it may shrink and distort the badges<\/p>\n

The green Scout badge should mirror the purple Scout badge on the right. Kea and Cub link badges should be spaced to allow for the scout link and venturer link badges<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Left Sleeve: The Tauhinu badge should be right at the top of the sleeve (beware the shoulder seem isn’t the center of the sleeve). Up to two events badges can then be placed under this (that are no older than a year since the event). Bronze, Silver and Gold should be spaced at the bottom of the sleeve. Until the Scout Bronze is achieved the highest Cub award is allowed to stay on the sleeve.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Sewing Method One – Using a sewing machine<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Pin badge into correct place with at least two pins<\/li>\n
  • Double check you have it in the right place<\/li>\n
  • Work from the top side of the shirt, through the badge<\/li>\n
  • You can use clear nylon thread on the top, this is invisible so you don\u2019t have to swap thread for each badge<\/li>\n
  • Travel a small amount at a time, leave the needle in and lift the pressure foot up to turn the fabric, ensuring the badge and fabric stay flat<\/li>\n
  • When you work on the sleeve turn the shirt inside out. Then you can work inside the sleeve on top of the badge and the sleeve does not have to wrap around the machine arm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Method Two – Hand Sewing<\/h3>\n

    To hand sew on a badge using thread that matches the border colour of badge. If you don\u2019t have a close colour match use; clear or invisible nylon thread<\/p>\n

    • Pin badge into correct place with at least two pins<\/li>\n
    • Double check you have it in the right place<\/li>\n
    • Use small over hand stitches through the border of badge, just catching the edge<\/li>\n
    • Use a length of thread no longer than your fore-arm; otherwise it is likely to tangle<\/li>\n
    • Use a single thickness of thread; it is less likely to be seen<\/li>\n
