Colin Mansfield – Group Leader – 1938-2024
The words pictured are Scout Vespers and it’s often the last song we sing at our scout campfires after an evening of good old fashioned singing ,skits and much laughter. It reminds us to remember our Scout Law and Promise, the same promise Colin took back in 1946.
Any answer would be an understatement to Colin keeping ‘his honour bright’. He positively impacted so many through his lifetime of service in scouting, which we were able to recognize with a such named award last year. His service and commitment stretches farther back than most can remember with time at St Barnabas, St Albans, Henderson scout groups and Motu Moana camp also, before he came to Tauhinu.
Colin was awarded the Medal of Merit three years before I was born! And more recently a Silver Tiki for his exceptional service to scouting. You could not argue for a single moment he had not ‘Done his daily task’
Colin was a friend to all, loved by the youth and a mentor to so many leaders, including myself. His legacy lives on with Tauhinu continuing to thrive and also now his own granddaughters leaders at Hobsonville Point Scout Group. On behalf of Scouting New Zealand thank you, may you rest in peace and ‘guiltless sleep tonight’.
