The NZ Scout Jamboree is the absolute pinnacle event on the National Scouting calendar. Occurring once every three years, this massive gathering brings together over 1,000 volunteers to engineer action-packed days for more than 2,500 youth members. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure and consistently forms the absolute highlight of a Scout’s career.
Participants will be challenged individually and collectively, pushed out of their comfort zones, entertained, and deeply inspired. Scouts learn self-reliance while working within dynamic, small teams to overcome diverse challenges. They will gain valuable life skills, take on new responsibilities, forge global friendships, and return home a completely transformed Scout and citizen.
⚓ Our Contingent Structure
A standard Jamboree contingent consists of a maximum of 36 Scouts and 7 Leaders, with a designated Leader assigned to guide each patrol. Tauhinu will be taking a maximum of 30 local Scouts, which includes a hosted patrol of 6 Australian Scouts and 1 Leader within our combined unit.
The Jamboree Programme
- Core Activity Days: A diverse, high-energy mixture of on-site challenges and off-site excursions.
- Expeditions & Service: Off-site full days, typically including a 1-night overnight campout. Remaining nights are stationed on-site and feature half-day events, a dedicated duty patrol day completing a structured community service project, and a specialized Jamboree Patrol Day.
- New Year’s Day & Open Day: Celebrations on New Year’s Day, alongside a scheduled January Open Day for visiting families and friends (specific details to follow).
- Evening Activities: Vibrant on-site night programmes, massive arena shows, and special events.
- Recreational Hubs: Dedicated camp social zones designed for hanging out, trading regional swap badges, and playing games.
Compulsory Pre-Jamboree Camps
These preparatory camps are vital milestones to ensure our combined contingent is tightly bonded, structured into their official patrols, and fully prepared for the logistics of the main event. We will likely be running these camps in close coordination with our neighbors at Awatuna and Orewa Scout Groups.
Fees & Fundraising
Current budget projections place the total cost at approximately $2,200 per Scout. This comprehensive fee is comprised of the estimated $1,500 national attendance fee, alongside contingent uniforms, transport logistics, pre-jam camp operations, shared equipment overheads, and leader subsidy fees. A standard 10% contingency buffer is added to our baseline calculations; any unspent surplus will be fully refunded following the event.
Contingent Uniform
Every participant will be issued a matching Tauhinu contingent uniform kit to wear throughout the event. This customized pack includes 2 dry-fit polo shirts, a bucket hat, a specialized contingent scarf, a woggle, and 20–30 regional swap badges to trade with Scouts from around the world.

Parental Support & Scout Expectations
An expedition of this magnitude requires an active partnership between leaders, scouts, and parents. It is vital that parents are fully engaged in the runway leading up to the camp; our voluntary leaders cannot manage the complete logistical load on top of delivering weekly section programmes. Closer to departure, we will require rostered parent help with regional transport, badge sewing, gear packing, and equipment audits.
