Where do your fees go?
- National Levy Support: Currently, approximately $290 of each youth member’s fee is passed forward directly as a levy to help SCOUTS New Zealand run the national infrastructure, safety systems, and insurance. The group is billed directly for this around Week 5 of every term.
- Local Group Operations: The remaining balance directly funds your local group. It powers our weekly hall running costs, provides earned achievement badges, maintains our physical assets, purchases modern marine/camping equipment, and helps subsidize key outings.
- 100% Volunteer Driven: All adult members, leaders, and committee personnel at Tauhinu Sea Scouts are dedicated volunteers and receive absolutely no financial compensation for their time.
- Leader Fee Incentives: Active group leaders are eligible for discounted subscription tracks for all of their children once their initial training/onboarding period is finalized (which is also backdated).
ℹ️ Comprehensive policies surrounding fee structures, concessions, and formal refunds can be accessed on our Fees and Refunds Policy Page.
Camps, Trips & National Events
- Included Activities: A wide array of our local weekend events\outings, skills workshops and localized daytime events are fully absorbed by our group’s baseline subscription fees at zero extra charge.
- Cost-Recovery Camps: Overnight sleepovers and major outdoor camps are run strictly on a non-profit, cost-recovery format. Fees cover exact charges for site booking, logistics, food, transport and specialized gear hire. Our volunteering leaders contribute their time completely free and only only reimbursed for expenses spent for the trip/camp.
- Fundraising for Milestones: For major milestone events (such as national\international Scout Jamborees or National Schools), Scouts and Venturers are actively supported to fundraise a major portion—or even the entirety—of their attendance fees.
- Payment in Advance: To maintain strict group liquidity, all specific camp fees must be paid in full prior to a youth member departing. The group is unable to extend line of credit, and all term fees must be fully settled before a youth member can attend any optional camp or sleepover.
